With three starters and a rotation player lost to graduation, the Indianola boys basketball team would have to rely on new players making an impact if they wanted to retain the success of recent years. In their opening contest against North Polk, Indianola saw five new players added to the main rotation with Cooper Nailor, Charlie Wilmott, Dagan Martin, Mark Pepper, and Casey Glascock all seeing significant minutes in the win. Head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports the largely new bench scored 19 points in the season opener, and it will be a big advantage for the squad this year.
“That’s nice when they can come in and not only change the tempo of the game but also put some points on the board. We’ve got confidence in all three or four of our guys that can come off the bench, that can bring that defensive intensity but also bring the offense.”
The Indians will next play Friday on the road at Pella in Little Hawkeye Conference action, and can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
