Overall conditions are expected to be pleasant over south central Iowa for early December, according to the National Weather Service.
A warming trend will continue through Wednesday, where forecast highs will approach the upper 50s and possibly 60 degrees — which would tie a record for December 9th, as the previous high mark is 60 set in 1979. Above average highs in the low 50s and upper 40s appear to stay in the region through Friday, before chances of precipitation bring a slight cool down to closer-to-normal air by the weekend.
Long-term forecast trends favor above-average warmth throughout the month of December, according to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, and slightly above average precipitation over the next 6-10 days. However, until the end of the year, December is looking to remain warmer than average (typically mid-30s for highs) and drier than normal.
