With a lot of returning talent coming at the lighter weights for the Indianola wrestling team, the Indians will look towards those positions to be consistent point scorers this season. Returning state runner-up Ryder Downey and Bowen Downey will be key contributors this season, and head coach Clint Manny tells KNIA Sports they are set up for success again this season.
“Some of our lightweights aren’t exactly lightweights anymore, Ryder Downey went from 113lbs to 126 or 132lbs in that mix throughout the season. Having Bowen around for the 106lbs, he’s a full 106 this season, that will be a luxury for him to be in a fairer match everytime out this year instead of giving up a bunch of weight.”
The Indians will also look for a contribution at the lower weights from newcomer Cael Meacham, but lost state qualifier Cooper Belt to an injury this fall. The Indians will next wrestle Thursday hosting Dallas Center-Grimes.
