Even just four games in — it’s amazing the difference a year can make for the Pella Christian girls basketball team.
After dropping 10 games in a row to start the 2019-20 winter season, the current Eagles are off to the fastest start from the program in four years with a 3-1 record — and a fourth-quarter Norwalk comeback away from a perfect win-loss mark. Those three wins match all of the regular season victories the Eagles tallied last season.
The most dramatic difference for P.C. in the early going is on offense — they’ve topped the 50 point threshold in all four of their games this winter, a feat they only achieved six times in the entirety of their schedule one season ago.
Pella Christian’s girls hope those improvements are enough to contend with the big schools in the conference. The Eagles will be put to the test over their next two games, when they host defending conference champions Indianola — who are ranked 15th in Class 5A, this Friday, and then travel to take on 2020 Little Hawkeye runners-up Grinnell, who are the No. 10 team in Class 4A, the following Friday the 18th. Hear the Eagles take on the Indians in a girls-boys doubleheader on 94.3 KNIA and the KRLS2 stream later this week.
