A bowling season that wasn’t guaranteed for the Pella High School program will start tonight after an offseason of uncertainty.
Following the end of the 2019-20 campaign, ownership closed Excit-a-Bowl — the home venue for all five seasons since the varsity program made its return to the high school, and Head Coach Mike Norman dealt with health issues that ultimately sidelined him for the current winter schedule. However, Interim Head Coach Mike Mathewson agreed to step in for Norman as he recovers, and new ownership at the local bowling alley has allowed the Dutch to now have a home over the next three months. Matthewson says he and the team are thankful to have a place to practice and compete in the Tulip City–and ultimately, the chance to compete.
The Pella boys and girls bowling teams head to Centerville later today to kick off the 2020-21 winter season. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS this winter for updates and interviews from local bowling teams.
