The Mustangs wrestling team had their fourth event in eight days to start the year on Thursday, going 1-2 in a quad at West Marshall with Nevada and Woodward-Granger joining in on the festivities.

It was a rough day for a shorthanded PCM squad as senior Brian Nicholson sat out with an injury. They also had to forfeit three weight classes. The Mustangs started with a loss to Nevada 48-33, a team they dominated 48-27 just last Saturday. They managed to win against the host, 46-36 and get a solid win streak going, but met their match against Woodward-Granger 54-24 in round three.

Head Coach Jeff Nicholson describes the evening’s affairs.

“The West Marshall round, we matched up with them. We won a bunch of matches there. But we lost to Nevada and Woodward-Granger. I knew Woodward Granger was going to be tough especially since we didn’t have our full team. That one was going to be a dog fight but we didn’t make it very close.”

Alex Courtney, Donavan Nickelson, Cooper Sloan, Hewitt Brinneger, Colby Tool, and Landon Fenton all had winning records on the day, with the latter three sweeping all of their matches.

The Mustangs sit at 7-5 and will look to stay above .500 on Saturday at Carlisle with a busy slate that will feature many bigger schools such as ADM and even Sioux City North.
