Twin Cedars will try to pull off a week of sweeps in the Bluegrass Conference as the boys and girls Sabers host Mormon Trail tonight. The girls have already seen progress from one season to the next. While Brooke Roby has been steady and the leading scorer, Rylee Dunkin and Cheyenne Bruns have stepped up and raised nearly every part of their respective games. Coach Trent Verwers (VAR-viss) tells KRLS Sports those two, plus a few other girls will have to continue that kind of progress if they are to have any chance to be competitive in the Bluegrass Conference.
Verwers:
“Last two years it’s been the Brooke Roby Show, and they have to know teams are going to lock down on her. Our girls seem to know that and Cheyenne and Rylee have answered the call and getting points. Once we get three girls in double figures, I really like our chances moving forward.”
Already the sophomore duo of Bruns and Dunkin have nearly tripled their average points per game this season than all of last season with Dunkin raising her average to nine points per game from 3.9 last season and Bruns going from 2.4 points per game to nearly seven points per game this year. Dunkin also had amassed 20 steals and 24 assists with Bruns chipping in 19 steals and ten assists this season. The boys are looking to build off of a strong second half performance against Moulton-Udell on Tuesday. A Saber sweep tonight would put both teams above the .500 mark for the season. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00.
