A 33rd death due to COVID-19 was reported in Marion County to the State of Iowa Coronavirus Database on Monday. There are 2,359 total cases in the county, according to the most recent weekly report from Marion County Public Health, with 2,224 considered recovered. There are eight residents hospitalized due to the virus.

Central College released an update to all on campus as it relates to COVID-19 and the end of the fall semester.

President Mark Putnam encouraged students to exercise caution after they leave for winter break, reminding everyone to get an influenza vaccination, review any travel regulations, and continue behaviors such as mask-wearing and social distancing whenever possible. Putnam also urged students to quarantine before returning to campus in mid-January, limit circles of contact while away from campus, and if possible, get a COVID-19 test.

In their most recent weekly report, the college reported a total of 157 positive cases on campus and 612 quarantined individuals due to possible exposure.
