After starting Little Hawkeye Conference play with a pair of matchups on their home floor, the Pella High basketball teams hit the road for the first time tonight in the league. Both the girls and boys will head to Newton to take on the Cardinals.
The Little Dutch boys are off to a 5-0 start, while Newton is 3-1 with their only loss coming Tuesday night to Ankeny Centennial. Pella Coach Derek Schulte is expecting a battle, as the Dutch and the Cardinals are in an early tie with Dallas Center-Grimes at the top of the LHC.
“They’re one of the three undefeated teams in our league right now, and they’re playing really good basketball to start the year. They’ll be excited for us to come to their gym and I imagine that they’ll have a raucous crowd even though they’re limited to the two tickets per participant. It’ll be a fun game and we need to be locked in.”
Pella’s girls are 3-3 to start the season and will try to climb above .500 against a Cardinals squad that’s won just once on the young season.
Tonight’s doubleheader starts at 6:15 at Newton High School. Trevor Castle will call the action along with John Holterhaus and Phil Hemming on the KRLS2 stream at www.kniakrls.com.
