pleasantville-3

Pleasantville got swept in their doubleheader at Des Moines Christian, both teams ranked top 3 in the state Friday. The girls dropped to the Lions 51-33, while the boys nearly got doubled up 66-34.

The girls lost their fifth game of the season. Malorie McKinney led the team in scoring, as she scored more than half of the Trojans’ points with 17. Adi Adreon was second on the team with six. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that they did turn the ball over too much, but did a good job defending the Lions’ top scorer, Moriah Prewitt. Prewitt scored just ten points, six below her season average.

The boys dropped their second game of the season. Taylon Mount led the team in scoring with 12 points off the bench. Mason Scheve struggled offensively, scoring just 11, which was second on the team. Coach Tom Wilkins tells KNIA Sports that his team got down big early and never seemed to recover from their large deficit.

Each team will go into the holiday break with three wins on the season, as they look to improve their play as the season starts to heat up. Both teams will be back in action January 5th with a conference doubleheader at Woodward-Granger.

The Pleasantville wrestling team will be competing in their conference tournament at home today in their final matches before Christmas Break. The Trojans are coming off a triangular Tuesday at AC/GC, where they swept the host and East Mills. Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that he expects this tournament to have some of the toughest competition his team has faced all season, including the Chargers.

DeForest also states that his unfamiliarity with conference competition will make this tournament intriguing. The action gets underway at 10 A.M. Check back to kniakrls.com tomorrow for a full recap of the tournament.
