As the Indianola School District heads into the holiday break, the school district is preparing for elementary schools to return to a full schedule in January, breaking off from the current hybrid model that ends the school day early. Whittier Elementary Principal Ed Johnson tells KNIA News with so many unknowns heading into the school year, it went about as smoothly as you could ask for.
“I was very nervous to start the school year, I just wasn’t sure how it would go. It just was not ideal, ideal would be the kids are here from 8-3, parents are at work, then they get to go home and spend time with their families on a normal basis. But it has really gone well. We have some students that are not on campus where it’s been a little bit of a struggle keeping the level of engagement and rigor up for those students, that is not perfect, but it has gone better than I anticipated.”
