The PCM Mustang basketball squads were in action at different locations Monday, but they yielded the same result. The boys went to East Marshall and came home with a 56-47 victory while the girls hosted Newton and won 38-28 to get their first win of the year.

Andrew Mitchell led the boys with 34 points, a season high for anyone who wears maroon and gold. After an 0-4 start, Head Coach Fred Lorensen has guided his squad to an even record with one game remaining before the break.

The girls started the year 0-9, including a one-point loss in the opener and an overtime defeat along the way, but got everything squared away as they beat the Cardinals despite trailing 18-15 at halftime. Lilli Baird led the team with 15 points while Paige Steenhoek and Celeste Wagaman added another six apiece. Wagaman also tallied 11 rebounds.

Head Coach Jeff Lindsay was ecstatic after his girls got a weight lifted off their shoulders and hopes they can build on it moving forward.

“It was good for the girls. Good that their hard work paid off. They’re such a good group that you were hoping one would just happen sooner or later, and fortunately tonight we got one. I know we have a game [Tuesday] night, but we’re going to enjoy this one now and going into break we’ll try to build on some things that we have seen improvement on the last week or two and come out on the second side and see where we end up.”

PCM’s final contest of 2020 is tonight, a double header at Roland-Story. Hear live coverage on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com starting at 5:45.
