The PCM boy’s basketball team is 4-5 at Christmas time and there are some standout players among them. The first is leading scorer Andrew Mitchell, who has scored 149 points in nine games. Perhaps more impressive is Carson Vande Lune, who is second in scoring.
Vande Lune is second in scoring with 83 total points. The kicker is that he has missed two games while dealing with personal issues and saw limited action after his return, being held out of the starting rotation three times in his seven appearances.
Listed at 5’9”, Vande Lune is tied for the shortest player on PCM’s roster. That may put most at a disadvantage, but Head Coach Fred Lorensen says that despite imperfections, he overcomes that by outworking his competition.
“He’s a good shooter. He can consistently do that. He comes in extra time to work on his shots. He works hard at his game and he’s got a chance to be a really good player. He gets a little out of control sometimes with the ball, gotta get him slowed down a little bit, but he’s really good at attacking off the dribble. He’s a really good shooter and we just have to get him to slow down a little bit and he’ll be really good for us.”
Vande Lune will next showcase his talents on January 4th at home against Earlham followed by a double header in Monroe against South Hamilton January 8th and can be heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.
