Melcher-Dallas’ girls basketball team is struggling to score to start the season, but they are looking to add more to their offense to help their shot selection.
The Saints have averaged 45 points per game through their first three games, but the only time they passed 40 was when they scored 70 at Ankeny Christian. Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports that she is putting shooting and free throws on the backburner to emphasize better passing and more offensive sets.
“We are focusing more on our offense,” Goff states. “I think we sometimes get stuck in the same rut of doing things over and over. Coach Larry and I have been talking about different things and working on different things to add to our offense because pretty much everybody knows what we will be doing. Hopefully that will help our shooting and our free throws.”
Goff also states that her team needs to improve more in their press break to help stop turning the ball over.
Melcher-Dallas’ first game of 2021 will be a conference matchup at Murray Monday, with the game tipping off at 6:00 PM.
