Ongoing development in the City of Pella has kept the planning and zoning department busier than normal heading into the new year.

Director Gerald Buydos says dozens of new housing permits and expansion of new residential and commercial developments is keeping their office busy as Pella appears on the cusp of significant population and economic growth.

Buydos says it’s been a challenge for the Pella City Council and city staff to meet the needs of the growing community while maintaining what makes the community unique — but he’s excited to have joined the city this year and to see the progress that’s been made even in that short-time frame.

Buydos anticipates several additional development projects — both new and repurposing of existing properties, to make their way to the city’s boards and commissions and the Pella City Council in 2022.
