As January begins, the bulk of the home heating season is still ahead. Mike Wood with Brookwood Incorporated of Knoxville says that residents should be doing a few things to make sure their furnace continues to run at peak performance.

“Stay on top of your filters, you really don’t want them to get too dirty. If they get too dirty, dirt will start passing through the filter, which can plug your blower motor, your secondary heat exchangers, it can even cause problems with your air conditioner. Keep your registers and vents clean and in space so the air coming out of them can actually get to the room instead of being blocked. Sometimes, just run the vacuum cleaner over the return air, keeps the dust off and keeps them open so air goes through them faster and easier.”
