With both teams on winning streaks, the Indianola girls and boys basketball squads will travel to Grinnell tonight to compete against the Tigers in Little Hawkeye Conference play.
The #14 in class 5A Indians girls are currently on top of the conference with a 3-0 record and sport a 7-game winning streak, but sit only a game above Grinnell who has only dropped a conference contest to Dallas Center-Grimes. The Tigers have also faced some of the state’s top teams including Center Point-Urbana and North Scott, with a 5-3 overall record.
The Indians boys are on a hot streak, winning their last two games in blowout fashion, and will look to take advantage of a Grinnell squad that has yet to pick up a conference victory. Indianola head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports his young team still has things to work on, but they are improving every game.
“We want to mature as a group. When we do have practice time, we really gotta work on our deficiencies, things defensively we have to clean up. Our offense has looked good, but we still have work to do there. We just have to keep getting better each and every game, especially as there are no easy games in the Little Hawkeye Conference. We just have to keep growing and maturing as a team.”
The game tonight can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off scheduled for 6:15.
