The Indianola Police Department issued a significantly lower number of tickets and tows for the second major winter weather event of the winter last week compared to the first in early December. The IPD issued 23 tickets and towed seven vehicles last week, compared to 62 tickets the previous time the snow ordinance was issued. Indianola Police Captain Brian Sher tells KNIA News those who are out driving during the winter should maintain a longer following distance, be prepared in advance of a winter weather emergency, and to report an accident to emergency personnel if one is witnessed. As part of the city’s snow ordinance, parking on city streets is not allowed, and area fire departments also ask residents to clear any hydrants in their area to help in case of emergency.
