The PCM boys basketball team returned to action Monday and started 2021 with a non-conference win over Earlham 57-47. The Mustangs improve to 5-5 on the season.

Leading the way for the team was Carson Vande Lune with a season high 24 points, pushing his season total to 107, which is second to only Andrew Mitchell’s 158. Vande Lune was the only player in double figures. Gatlin Boell had the most rebounds with eight, which was one more than his point total Monday evening.

PCM Head Coach Fred Lorensen talks about the big night from the junior Vande Lune after he put up the second most points of any Mustang in a game this season.

“He’s a basket maker. I think he was 4-7 from the arc, so he made a good percentage of his three point shots. He just did a nice job making baskets. That’s a big deal and we need him to do that for us.”

The Mustangs’ next contest will be this Friday in Monroe against South Hamilton in a double header, where the girls will make their 2021 debut. This is a Heart of Iowa Conference matchup that could very well impact seeding in the postseason. Live coverage can be heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com starting at 5:45.

The PCM wrestling team will return to action this evening for their first meet of the new year. This will be a home triangular against the likes of Newton and Saydel. Full results will be available at kniakrls.com after the conclusion of the event, which is slated to start at 6:00 in Monroe.
