At Monday’s Knoxville City Council meeting, the council decided to adjust the start date of the city’s new rental housing inspection program. Interim City Manager Heather Ussery says the decision to delay is a result of the ongoing pandemic.
“The initial proposal was to start it October 1st, 2021. Council decided with COVID-19 ongoing, that it would be best to give landlords as much time as possible to do the updates they need to, things like that, and give them the full year. It’ll be going into effect January 1st, 2022, and we’ll play it by ear when it gets closer if that date needs to be moved again.”
The council also approved a contract with Iowa Inspections, LLC to conduct the inspections. Another landlord meeting is expected to take place in the spring.
