The Pella City Council approved a contract to connect up to 2,000 customers to gigabit internet service over the course of 2021 at their meeting Tuesday.

Excel Utility Contractors, the group currently installing fiber along every city street, will complete service drops to customers through Pella Fiber for $1,273,075. The contract is under the estimate of $1,413,589 provided by NewCom Technologies.

The council also approved a third amendment to the Pella Corporation Hangar Lease at the Pella Municipal Airport, as well as resolutions for a second amendment of a private development agreement with South Main, a change order for Fifield Road Water Main Improvements, the final quantity adjustment of the Pella Municipal Airport wildlife fence, and endorsing roadway improvements to 250th Avenue in connection with the Lely North American Headquarters Project.
