Little Hawkeye Conference basketball returns to the Norwalk gym this evening, but it will be only a varsity girls game. That’s because the Grinnell boys team has a COVID-19 issue, and their season is suspended through January 15th.
The Norwalk girls enter tonight’s game at 3-1 in conference play, and are on a season-long three-game win streak after wins over Van Meter and Newton to start the year. Senior Bren Moritz says that her team is confident, and feels they’ll be ready to face a talented Tiger team.
# 13 in 4A Grinnell is 2-2 in the conference, and gave up a lead at home Tuesday against Indianola. Last year’s win by Norwalk snapped a seven-game Grinnell win streak in the series, and the Warriors will try to win consecutive games against Grinnell for the first time since 2012.
Tonight’s game will air on the KNIA3 stream with Jon Mohwinkle and Steve Wermerskirchen calling the action. Pregame coverage begins at 6:00 p.m., with the opening tipoff at 6:15 from Norwalk High School.
