Pella Community Ambulance reports service call numbers were down in 2020 from 2019. Director Greg Higginbotham says they assisted at 1,739 incidents last year, down from 1,825 the previous year, a drop that was largely attributed due to closures in the spring related to COVID-19.

However, Higginbotham says they were extremely busy with calls related to the virus this fall, especially in November, during the large surge across the state. Higginbotham says despite those challenges, the Pella Community Ambulance call response time dropped below the state average for the first time ever.
