Pleasantville’s basketball teams split a non-conference doubleheader with Albia Saturday afternoon. The girls routed the Blue Demons, 53-14, but the boys suffered their fourth straight loss, losing 59-49.
The Trojans girls put forth one of their best performances of the season, allowing just 14 total points to Albia. Pleasantville put up a season-high 23 1st-quarter points and allowed just five total points through the first three quarters. Adi Adreon had a season-high 19 points, including four three-pointers. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that his team put forth their best offensive showing of the season.
“We played really solid defense. We kept a good basketball team to five points until there were six minutes left in the game. I went with my JV kids and they left their varsity in for a bit and they got nine more. It was a real solid performance by everybody. We started off with three girls hitting five threes in the first half.”
Pleasantville’s girls now stand at 5-6 on the season. They will have the whole week to prepare for their next matchup against AC/GC Friday as part of a girls-boys conference doubleheader. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:15 PM.
Pleasantville’s boys’ offensive struggles continue as they fail to hit the 50-point mark once again. Mason Scheve led the way with 20 points, including 14 in the second half. The Trojans couldn’t stop Albia’s Brayden Messamaker and Drew Chance, who combined to score 40 of Albia’s 59 points. The Trojans’ boys drop to 3-5.
The Pleasantville boys will be back in action Monday as they travel to Ogden in a West Central Conference matchup, with the game tipping off at 7:30 PM.
