The Iowa Legislature will reconvene for the 2021 session, and will be potentially featuring several measures that can change the Iowa Constitution. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News he is focusing on a bill that would put the right to keep and bear arms in the state constitution. Garrett said Iowa is one of the few states that does not have that written into state law.
“We are one of six states that does not have the right to keep and bear arms in our constitution, most states do just like the federal constitution. That we did pass, but a constitutional amendment must be passed by two consecutive sessions of the legislature, then will go to the people.”
Garrett also said since the legislature approved the amendment last session, he feels confident they will pass it again.
