The Norwalk basketball teams traveled to Dallas Center-Grimes Tuesday evening for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader, and came away winless on the evening. The Warrior girls fell 59-37, while the Norwalk boys dropped a 50-43 decision, as aired on KNIA3.
The Norwalk girls trailed wire-to-wire, and were tripled up 18-6 after the first quarter. Norwalk started to find an offensive rhythm in the second and third quarters, but any comeback effort was thwarted in the fourth by the 5th-ranked Mustangs, despite Norwalk shooting 50 percent from deep. Jocelyn Bice scored 11 points to lead the way. The Warriors drop to 5-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The Norwalk boys took an early lead in what proved to be a defensive battle, but a 12-2 Mustang run to close the first quarter put Dallas Center-Grimes in front for the remainder of the contest. Norwalk got to within 41-39 in the fourth quarter, as the Mustangs did not score until three minutes left in the period. But DCG capitalized on missed Norwalk buckets and sealed the game with free throws. Head Coach Chris Larson says that there were many positives in this game, but the late game execution needs to improve.
Ethan Carlson led the way with 13 points while Redek Born tacked on 11. Norwalk falls to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Both teams will return to action Friday at Indianola, with the games airing live on 94.3 KNIA.
