indianola-3

The Indianola girls basketball team fell to #1 in class 4A Glenwood on the road Tuesday evening 70-57 in non-conference play. The #14 in class 5A Indians and Rams traded blows in the first half, ending the first quarter tied at 13 apiece, then with the Indians trailing at halftime 31-30. The two evenly matched teams continued to stay close through three, with the Indians trailing 50-47 going into the final eight minutes, but the Rams would outscore the Indians 20-10 in the final frame to pick up the win. Indians head coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports his team will look to take advantage of some talented post players to allow the team to be much more versatile.

“Looking at what Kendall McDaniel brings to our team, looking at how Kinzey Johnston has played over the last two weeks, we have post players that we maybe haven’t been able to do for the last couple years. So getting the ball inside especially against the zone, and moving then as well not just staying set expecting them to kick it out or score, but getting it inside then moving without the basketball is something that we are going to continue to get better at.”

Lauren Blake led the Indians with 19 points, while Kendall Clatt scored 15. The loss snaps an 11-game winning streak for Indianola, and they will return to Little Hawkeye Conference play Friday hosting Pella.
