melcher-dallas-5

The Melcher-Dallas Saints split a Bluegrass Conference doubleheader Friday night with Moravia. The girls came out on top in overtime, 44-40 but the boys lost 78-41.

The Saints girls won their sixth of their last seven games thanks to a season-high 21 points from Haley Godfrey. Nine of Godfrey’s points came from behind the arc. The Saints came back from down 12 in the third quarter to force overtime. Melcher-Dallas also knocked down a season-high 15 free throws.

The Saints boys’ struggles continue, as they got down 14 after one quarter and 23 at halftime. Ryan Krpan led the way for Melcher-Dallas as he scored 11 points. The Saints had a hard time stopping Moravia star Carson Brown, who had 29 points. Melcher-Dallas drops to 2-6 on the season and will have a quick turnaround with the Bluegrass Conference Tournament.

Melcher-Dallas’ boys will be playing Moulton-Udell tonight at 7:30 PM in the first round to begin tournament play at home. Coach Jim Wells tells KNIA Sports that it will be great playing a tournament game on their home court.

“We get to play on the home court, we haven’t done that for years. When you get the first round of the conference tournament and a chance to play on your home court, you can take care of business. I think we need to push the ball, share the ball and we have some great defensive guys out there. You can win that, you already started on a roll, so you really look forward to the next game.”

Melcher-Dallas’ girls will await the winner of Diagonal-Seymour for their first tournament matchup, which will be at home Monday night at 7:30 PM.
