The Helping Hand of Warren County, in partnership with the City of Indianola and the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, was able to serve over 750 people hot meals from local businesses once a week during the Indianola Eats program this fall. Executive Director of the Helping Hand of Warren County Sue Wilson tells KNIA News the program was a huge success not only for helping out local restaurants who received grant funds for the meals, but also to help advertise the services of the food pantry to area residents.
“We are trying to create an outreach that is not intimidating, that is not all about a food pantry. Because there are social stigmas around the term food pantry. So we are just excited we’ve been able to venture into different avenues to be able to provide food.”
Wilson said the work put in by the community to help volunteer for the program to help distribute meals or donate monetarily was overwhelming, and she can’t thank them enough for the support.
