Warren County’s Little Hawkeye Conference schools met for the first time this season on the basketball court in Indianola. It was the Norwalk Warriors coming away with a sweep on the evening, with the girls taking a 50-44 win, while the boys grinded out a 46-42 triumph, as aired on 94.3 KNIA.

The Warrior girls found themselves up by two after the first quarter, but Indianola made their move and was in control 20-15 at halftime. The Indians remained in control for much of the way, and even extended the lead to as high as 12 points in the fourth quarter. But a 12-1 Norwalk run made it a tight game once again, and freshman Ava Johnson made several clutch baskets in the paint to put the game away. It was the first conference and first home loss for Indianola. Jocelyn Bice led Norwalk with 14 points, while Lauren Blake scored 16 to lead Indianola. Norwalk improves to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Indianola falls to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

It was a defense battle throughout the boys game, which was marked by several scoring runs. An even first quarter ended with a 10-10 tie, and both teams went through shooting slumps in the second en route to an 18-18 halftime score. Indianola extended the lead to eight in the closing minutes of the fourth, but an 8-0 Norwalk run eventually tied the score. A Grant Larson 3 gave the Warriors a major boost, and an Evan Borst steal proved to be a key play, as Norwalk iced the game away at the free throw line. Cole Tunender scored 11 points to lead Norwalk, while Drew Kingery led Indianola with 16 points. Norwalk moves to 9-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play, and returns to action Tuesday at home against Pella. Indianola is now 8-5 and 4-4 in the conference, with a home game against Pella Christian on Tuesday.
