The Norwalk basketball teams were back in action Friday evening with a road trip to Oskaloosa. The Warriors earned the sweep, as the girls muscled out a 48-40 victory, while the boys defeated the Indians 52-36 for the second time this season.

The girls game started with a glacial offensive pace, as the Warriors held a 4-0 lead after one. The pace heated up in the second with a Norwalk scoring run that increased the lead to 19-13 by halftime. Oskaloosa briefly took a 24-23 lead in the third quarter, but it was their only lead of the night. Norwalk then closed the quarter on a 9-0 run, and iced the game away with free throws in the fourth. Head Coach Jill Martin says it was a much different Oskaloosa team, and is happy with her team’s defensive performance.

Senior Bren Moritz led the way with 15 points while freshman Ava Johnson tacked on 14. Norwalk improves to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. They’ll be back in action today at home against Atlantic at 2:30 p.m.

A low-scoring affair in the boys game saw the Warriors lead 8-7 after a back and forth first quarter. A 23-14 halftime lead quickly expanded in the third quarter, and Norwalk easily put the game away in the fourth while playing many of the reserves. It was the same score by which Norwalk defeated Oskaloosa in their previous meeting this season. A quick spurt by the Warriors helped close the game out in the fourth quarter.

Senior Cole Tunender led the way with 22 points. The Warriors improve to 10-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play. Norwalk will return to action Monday at home against Pella, with the games airing live on 92.1 KRLS.
