The rich tradition of success continued for Pella Jazz continued at the Iowa High School Music Association State Contest over the weekend.
Director of Bands at Pella High School Dameon Place says two of their three ensembles performing received a Division I Superior Score, the highest possible, including Pella Jazz I, which he says continues a streak of more than four decades of consistently high scores.
Place says 2021 will be unusual with a lack of competitive performances on the calendar, including the cancellation of the annual Iowa Jazz Championships, where Pella has earned 18 Class 3A state championships; however, he’s still excited at how this year’s bands are performing, and they will still celebrate with multiple shows leading up to Friday of Tulip Time.
At the Pella High School site, Knoxville Jazz also earned a Division I rating, the highest score possible. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS for continuing coverage of high school fine arts programs.
