The PCM Mustangs played in their first double header in over a week Tuesday at West Marshall as heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com and wound up splitting the Trojans. The Mustang girls fell 57-24 and the boys won 67-39.

The PCM girls didn’t have it very easy from the jump, as they only scored six points in the first half. They tripled that in the second half, but turnovers hurt any chance the Mustangs had. Paige Steenhook and Lilli Baird combined for 19 points while the rest of the team had just five.

The Mustang boys had a little issues at the start, trailing 14-7 early. However, a wisely taken timeout rallied the troops and PCM took the lead back almost immediately. They had little issue the rest of the way. Carson Vande Lune enjoyed a big night, amassing 22 points.

Head Coach Fred Lorensen says that taking that timeout was just one way of helping out a team that hadn’t played for some time.

“We got off to a rough start and we were concerned about that. We hadn’t played for like 11 days. Figured there might have been a little bit of rust there. We were pretty rusty there both offensively and defensively. Once we got towards the end of the first quarter, from then on we played much better. We had a lot of intensity. Had some good fast breaks. Passed the ball really well and attacked the basket really well. We just played a lot better once the first quarter was over.”

PCM will be back in action Thursday for a home double header against Green County, a matchup delayed due to weather from last week.
