Pella’s basketball teams completed a season sweep of Oskaloosa with a pair of wins at a home doubleheader heard live Tuesday on 92.1 KRLS.
The Dutch were 45-36 winners in the opener, and 66-26 victors in the boys evening contest.
No. 2 in 3A Pella asserted dominance, opening on a 22-5 run over most of the 1st quarter. Despite a cold period of shooting in the 2nd, in the final two minutes of the half the Dutch rode four turnovers and ripped off a 10-0 stretch before the final horn. Senior Grant Nelson scored 19 points to lead Pella once again, and says it felt good to have a strong performance after battling in a tough game 24 hours before with Norwalk.
Noah Allen added 11 points and Karl Miller had 10 with seven rebounds.
In the opener, the Lady Dutch struggled to find offensive flow early, and trailed most of the first half and at one point 20-14, but back-to-back threes tied the contest before the half. The lead at one point was stretched to 10 in the 3rd quarter, but Oskaloosa came charging back with a 9-0 run to keep it close. A clutch three-pointer by Faith Diers and strong defense kept the road team at bay late in the 4th period. Anna Vander Waal and Reagan Van Wyk each had 11 points, and for Reagan that all came in the second half with four steals in the final 16 minutes.
Pella’s girls are 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the Little Hawkeye Conference; the Dutch boys are 15-1 overall and 11-0 against league foes. Both travel to Grimes Friday to take on a pair of ranked DCG teams, with the Pella boys able to clinch a league title with a win.
