People over the age of 65 and those who are 100 percent disabled can qualify for an Elderly and Disabled Property Tax Credit through their county treasurer’s office. Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette says that this can be a helpful program for property owners who no longer have steady income due to retirement or disability.

“The Elderly and Disabled Property Tax Credit is a really great program through the Iowa Department of Revenue where you can have your property tax amount reduced up to $1,000 according to a graduated income schedule as long as your household income falls under $24,206.”

Those interested must complete the form on the Department of Revenue’s website, or by calling the treasurer’s office. These are due by June 1st each year, and Bigaouette says that now is a good time to get started with the process. Hear more about this tax credit on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
