indianola-3

Both the Indianola girls and boys basketball squads earned big wins over Oskaloosa Friday evening, the girls dominating 71-41, and the boys matching with a 71-39 win in a doubleheader heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The #15 in class 5A Indians girls were dominant from the start, leading 25-2 after the first quarter and 48-13 at the halftime break, with a combined 35 points from Kendall Clatt and Lauren Blake, and earned running clock for the rest of the contest. Indianola and Osky traded buckets in the second half, but the damage was already done as Indianola cruised to their second straight win. Blake led the Indians with 20 points, all but three were scored in the first half, while Clatt had 18 all in the first half.

The Indians boys were just as dominant early on, leading 22-7 after the first quarter, then continued to bully Oskaloosa in the second quarter for a 39-19 halftime advantage. After a slow start to the third quarter, Indianola built up a lead to 35 points in the second half to get running clock and secure the win. Head coach Brett Watson said his young guys seem to be out of a mid-season shooting slump.

“That little spell we were going through, was we were getting great shots they just weren’t falling for us. We talked about with those guys we know they are great shooters and they are shooting good shots, and you just have to keep sticking with it. You are seeing now they are starting to hit their shots and it’s starting to make a huge difference.”

Caden Rehmeier led Indianola with 18, while Drew Kingery scored 17. The girls improve to 15-4 on the season, while the boys are now 11-6. The girls will wait until Tuesday to play Newton, while the boys host Des Moines Lincoln today at 6pm.
