The Norwalk basketball teams made the trip to Grinnell Friday evening for their final road doubleheader of the season. The Warrior girls dropped a 67-35 decision, while the boys came back for a 39-38 win, as aired on KNIA3.

It was all Tigers from the start in the girls game. Norwalk had trouble maintaining the pace of play that Grinnell brought to the table, and fell behind 18-8 after the first quarter. Unfortunately for Norwalk, that trend continued throughout the rest of the game. Any scoring flurry by the Warriors was quickly halted, and Grinnell handed Norwalk its worst loss of the season. Bren Moritz scored 12 points to lead the way. Norwalk falls to 11-8 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

The boys game featured several scoring runs and scoring droughts. After a Norwalk bucket on the first possession of the game, Grinnell went on a 12-0 run to go up by 10. The Warriors fought back, but the Tigers maintained control and led 23-17 at the break. Norwalk tied the game at 23, only for it to be taken straight back. The teams traded baskets and scoring slumps the rest of the way, and Norwalk got the ball back with nine seconds to play, and called timeout to set up a game winner.

That Ethan Carlson bucket gave Grinnell a chance to win, but a buzzer-beating 3 was missed, and the Warriors celebrated the victory. Carlson says that everything fell into place.

He scored 11 points to lead the way for the Warriors. Norwalk improves to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in conference play. They’ll be back in action Tuesday at home against Dallas Center-Grimes.
