Pleasantville’s basketball teams split a West Central Conference doubleheader against Ogden at home with the girls winning 57-23 but the boys lost 66-49 as heard on the KRLS3 stream; the Trojans’ wrestling team will compete at Colfax-Mingo for Sectionals today.
The Trojans’ girls notched their fourth straight win of the season, improving their record to 10-8. Pleasantville put forth one of their most balanced scoring efforts as four players eclipsed double-figures. Malorie McKinney led the way with 16 points for the Trojans. Rachel Harvey had 12, and Adi Adreon and Faith Vanderhart each had ten points. The victory for the Trojans gives them double-digit wins for the first time since 2017-18 and their first regular season finishing .500 since 2010-11. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that his team was happy to clinch that elusive winning record.
“If we got to play the Southeast Warren game, we knew we had to win it to give ourselves a chance to be locked above .500. Now we have two games and both of them are winnable games. We lost to Van Meter by four and ACGC got beat by West Central Valley. You have to play every game and see how it comes out.”
Pleasantville’s boys continue to struggle to score offensively, losing their 11th of their last 13 games. The Trojans now stand at 5-12 on the season. Mason Scheve led the way with 25 points while the rest of the team combined to score 24 points total. This loss by Pleasantville is also their third straight loss as they head into the weekend.
Both teams will be back in action for another boys-girls West Central Conference home doubleheader against ACGC Monday. The doubleheader will begin with the girls’ game tipping off at 5:30 PM. The games will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call.
Pleasantville’s wrestling team will travel to Colfax-Mingo for their Sectional wrestling competition today. This will be the second time the Trojans visit Colfax-Mingo High School in the last two weeks. The last time Pleasantville was there, they finished 4-1 in a dual tournament, with their only loss coming to Treynor.
Action gets underway at 10:00 AM.
