With the Saints’ doubleheader at Seymour canceled Saturday, Melcher-Dallas’ basketball teams will travel to Orient-Macksburg Monday night for a Bluegrass Conference Doubleheader.
The Saints’ girls will look to get back to winning ways as they have lost four straight games since the Bluegrass Conference Tournament, and that is due to them being down five key players. Kacey and Riley Enfield, Haley Godfrey, and Grace Overgaard will be out until Melcher-Dallas’ district matchup at Martensdale-St. Mary’s Thursday night. Hailey Hoch is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
The Saints’ boys are in the midst of a three-game winning streak since finishing fourth in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament. Melcher-Dallas has notched victories against Tri-County, Diagonal, and Moulton-Udell. A win for the Saints would put them at .500 for the first time this season. Also, a win would give Melcher-Dallas an opportunity to clinch their third winning season in four years. Coach Jim Wells tells KNIA Sports that the win over Moulton-Udell Wednesday was the team’s most impressive win during the team’s winning streak.
“I would say the Moulton-Udell win was the most impressive. I thought we played great defense and shot the ball well in all three games, but when you look at what we did against Moulton-Udell, we were up 34-4 after the first quarter, and anybody that follows basketball a lot knows that when you put up 34 points in a quarter, you are doing pretty good, especially starting out of the gate like that.”
The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at Orient-Macksburg with the girls’ game tipping off at 6:00 PM Monday night.
