The Indianola City Council received a presentation on the upcoming Rental Inspection Program that will be implemented in the city, if the US Census results in the city crossing the 15,000 threshold in population. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News state law requires certain policies put in place once a city reaches a certain threshold.

“We believe that we will hit the 15,000 population threshold. Per state law, once you hit that you are required to implement a rental inspection program. It is something we are planning for as there are some staffing and expenses along with that, so we have to implement that into the budget.”

Waller also said the city will have to hire a position to oversee the new program, but that hire has been budgeted and planned for by the council and city staff.
