At Thursday’s virtual legislative forum, State Senator Amy Sinclair was present to inform constituents of current happenings in the capitol. The chair of the Senate Education Committee, Sinclair discussed efforts to eliminate disparities in education.
“This past year, we passed a bill, and it was included in funding for this year, that would offer support to districts for classroom violence and create therapeutic classrooms, as well as support for dyslexia training, and getting teachers certified with those specialist degrees to address dyslexia in classrooms. In addition, we are working on eliminating the inequity that exists between the base cost per pupil and the district cost per pupil that districts across the state are allowed to locally levy on property taxes in excess of the state cost per pupil.”
More legislative forums are planned for March and April. Sinclair represents Senate District 14, which includes most of Marion County.
