The Indianola boys basketball team took down former CIML rival Urbandale on the road in non-conference action Tuesday evening, 62-49.
The Indians and J-Hawks fought early on, with the Indians hitting several outside shots to lead 16-11 after the first and 28-21 at the halftime break. The J-Hawks fought back in the third quarter with strong finishing at the rim to cut the Indians lead down to 39-38 going into the final frame, but Indianola went on a 9-2 run to start the quarter to build the lead back and ultimately outscored the J-Hawks 23-11 in the quarter to win.
Head coach Brett Watson said his team has started to adapt mentally to their games.
“We’ve still got a young group that is still maturing. We kind of figured out that a lot of it has to do with the mental side of it. We haven’t really changed a whole lot offensively or defensively, but I think we are starting to mature between our ears. That’s something we have to build off of. We have to keep this thing going, it’s February now, playoff basketball time, we hope to play our best basketball right now.”
Drew Kingery had 19 points to lead the squad in scoring. The Indians are now on a seven-game winning streak, and improve to 15-6 on the season. They will next compete in postseason action against Des Moines Lincoln on Monday.
