pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s boys’ basketball team will go up against #4 in Class 2A Des Moines Christian tonight, while the wrestling team will be in action at Des Moines as Kitt Lundy and Matthew Kauffman will be competing in the State tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Trojans’ basketball team is coming off a resounding 64-37 win over Colfax-Mingo Monday night at home. Pleasantville played #4 in Class 2A Des Moines Christian twice earlier this season, losing by scores of 66-34 and 78-66. In the second game, Trojan Junior Mason Scheve scored a career-high 35 points, including eight three-pointers. Coach Tom Wilkins tells KNIA Sports that his team needs to have confidence and balanced scoring in order to pull off the upset.

“We are going to have to run Mason (Scheve) off some screens. The biggest part I am going to have to do as a coach is get them to believe. I just told them, ‘hey, let’s go shock the world on Thursday.’ Nobody outside of this gym, this community, that locker room, thinks that we can beat Des Moines Christian. We got to play almost a perfect game, but I think we got it in us.”

The game will tip off at Des Moines Christian High School at 7:00 PM tonight. The game will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call.

Lundy will be competing at 132 lbs and Matthew Kauffman will be competing at 285 lbs. This is Lundy’s first state tournament appearance, while this is Kauffman’s fourth consecutive trip to Wells Fargo. Kauffman tells KNIA Sports that he just needs to take care of business to place for the first time in his high school career.

“I just gotta do my stuff. Staying in good positions. Do what I know and try not to do anything too far out of my comfort zone.”

Action starts at Wells Fargo Arena at 9:00 AM.
