The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad fell to #8 Roland-Story on Wednesday night 53-40 in a class 3A regional semi-final heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Panthers struggled to shoot the ball in the first half mustering only ten points and finding themselves down by as many as 18 points early in the third quarter, but Knoxville was able to close the third quarter and an 18-8 run to get to within eight points, but could get no closer the rest of the way despite having several chances to close the gap in the final quarter. Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports it boiled down to not making shots and not rebounding well enough at key times.

Uitermarkt:
“We were hoping we would get to halftime with them at around 20 and if we rebounded solidly we could have done that. So those are two things in the first half is, we didn’t rebound well enough and didn’t knock down shots, but I was really proud of how they played in the second half.”

Maggie Wilkins scored 15 points to lead Knoxville as she closed a brilliant career as a member of the 1,000 point club and getting her 1,500th career point this season. Emma Dunkin chipped in ten points. Knoxville finishes the season with a 15-6 record.
