The Marion County Democratic Central Committee held a canned soup drive in place of their annual President’s Day luncheon this year. Jan Evans with the organization tells KNIA/KRLS News that a large amount of donations were raised.

“We had a dropoff location at members’ homes in Knoxville, Pleasantville, and Pella. Roughly, from those sites, we’ve estimated there’s 1,000 or more items that we had donated. That’s a pretty hearty donation I think.”

She says this initiative may take place in the future, even when the organization feels it is safe to gather. Evans thanks all who donated for their contributions, and looks forward to helping deliver the proceeds to local food shelves.
