Earlier this week, the Iowa Legislature passed state supplemental aid for K-12 public schools. District 40 State Senator Ken Rozenboom says the Senate and the House came to an agreement, allocating an additional $49.4 million for the next fiscal year, or a 2.4% increase, which includes money for per pupil and transportation equity as well. Additionally, Rozenboom says the Iowa House passed legislation to provide $27 million to schools for expenses incurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, with priority for districts that returned to in-person learning in the fall and those hit hard by the August derecho. The bill was led by District 79 Representative Dustin Hite, and will move to the Senate for consideration next week.
