The field events packed a punch for the Central College men’s indoor track and field team in winning a home triangular meet Saturday afternoon. Central tallied 116 points, outpacing Simpson’s 87 and Luther’s 74.
Remaining undefeated this season in the long jump and triple jump, Brock Lewis won both events. His triple jump reached 46 feet, 5.5 inches and he long jumped 23-0.75.
Central also had the winning pole vault (13-5.5) from Tanner Johnson and the top high jump (6-4) from Matt Riedemann.
Joe Stein had another strong weekend, winning both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash for the second week in a row. He matches his personal-best time in the 60-meter dash (6.95 seconds) and improved his 200-meter dash time to 22.57 seconds.
Danny Devenuto, Nolan Reynolds, Grant Boyse and Carter Tryon teamed up for the top 4×400-meter relay time (3:29.74).
Thrower Theo Baldus recorded a pair of runner-up finishes in the shot put (43-8.5) and weight throw (50-7.25). Reynolds was second in the 400-meter dash (53.01 seconds) and Jack Orengo was second in the 3,000-meter run (9:06.93).
In its third triangular of the season, the Central College women’s indoor track and field team bagged its first team championships of the season Saturday against Simpson College and Luther College. The Dutch won 12 of the 14 events and totaled 145 points. The Norse trailed in second with 87 points and the Storm had 42.
Holly Forrester broke a 17-year old school record in the indoor triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 1.25 inches. She also won the long jump with a leap of 16-6.5.
Becoming just the second Dutch woman to break nine seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, Kiki Pingel clocked a winning time of 8.97 seconds. Mary Gray was second in 9.27 seconds.
Central swept the top spots in the throwing events with Kennedy Morris winning the weight throw (56-10.25) and Abby Marr winning the shot put (38-1.5).
Sophomore Mari Stein bagged wins in the 800-meter run (2:22.21) and mile run (5:13.76). Hailey Hill topped the field in the 3,000-meter run (11:08.53). Kasey Pelzer won the 60-meter dash in 8.18 seconds and Malory Jones took the high jump with a leap of 5-0.25.
Freshman Hadyn Miller won the 400-meter dash in 1:01.53, with Elsie Thoreson and Abbi Roerdink were second in third in times of 1:03.01 and 1:04.97, respectively. The trio was joined by classmate Alyssa Mayhew to win the 4×40-meter relay in 4:11.91.
Central hosts its third and final triangular next Saturday against Buena Vista University and Loras College.
