pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s wrestling team had two wrestlers make it to Wells Fargo this past season, but their focus could be on making history as a team next season.

The Trojans won 20 total duals in 2020-21, which is just four off from their school record. Two important strengths for the Trojans for this past season were their depth and their love of the game. Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that freshman Tyler Gibson was one underclassman that exceeded expectations this year.

“When it really mattered, especially at sectionals when it came time to put his toe on the line, he went to sectionals and wrestled the best I saw him wrestle. We knew he was a kid that had a lot of experience and can do some things for us. We saw what kind of wrestler he is at that sectional tournament. Unfortunately, he didn’t have that same firepower at the district tournament, but really proud of the way he progressed throughout the year, and really looking forward to him making a big jump next year.”

The full season recap interview for Pleasantville wrestling will air Saturday morning at 9 AM during the KNIA Coaches’ Corner.
