A 13-0 run to end the third quarter by the Jaguars of Ankeny Centennial was enough to seal a victory of the Indianola boys basketball team in the substate semifinal Friday evening 71-53 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians and Jaguars both came out firing, with the Indians getting into early deficits of 7-1 and 11-4, but a 10-2 run to end the quarter put them up 14-13 after the first eight minutes, then the two squads traded buckets in the second to end the half tied at 28. With over four minutes into the third quarter and the score tied at 38, the Jaguars caught fire while the Indians went cold leading to the run that put the Indians behind for good. Indians head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports when he looks back on the success of this season he can point to upperclassman leadership from his seniors.
“They’ve raised the bar for this program. That’s what you want as a coach is every year to get better and get better and better. I felt this senior class really set the tone for us both on the court, during practice, and off the floor.”
Drew Kingery scored 17 to lead the Indians, while Caden Rehmeier dropped 16. The Indians finish the season with a 16-7 record, and graduate a senior class of seven.
