melcher-dallas-4

Melcher-Dallas’ boys’ basketball team will be looking for a new coach for next season, as Jim Wells retired from coaching basketball after 23 years with the program.

Wells’ last season with Melcher-Dallas was a 9-10 record and a first-round playoff loss to North Mahaska. Wells retires with 215 career wins across his illustrious career. He also coached three 1,000-point scorers, including BJ Wells, Chase Wetterling, and Ryan Krpan. Wells states that he thinks 2004 was his best year as a coach.

“Go back to 2004. We won the conference and the conference tournament. We won every game by an average of 15 points, so we played outstandingly in our conference. All of the three games we lost, we went 19-3 that year, were non-conference games.”

The Saints will be returning one starter next year, who is sophomore Owen Suntken
